Story Behind the Event

In ASEAN UNIVERSITY GAMES 2008 (AUG 2008) held in Kuala Lumpur, I could say it is another way to reflect the background story of different countries. It is really touch and even give us a lot of realization to the society. ASEAN member contain 11 countries include the new – Timor Leste. Unfortunately, Myanmar did not send any athletes in this large regional sport event. In evidence, we could say Myanmar face lot of internal problems cause a bad impact on country progressive even to the sport which actually should be fenced out by politic. However, both economy and politic are dictate country destiny and populace. Now, Vietnam has been one of the great performance countries in regional sport event recently. Their reformation and opening similar to the China show they are not supposed to be ignore as one of the competitive country in the world. Many international economists have regarded it as economy-grow up and competitive country. In AUG 2008, their performance is the best after Malaysia which has advantage as host, exceed sport giant – Thailand.
A tiny country – Timor Leste, just got independence from Indonesia a few years ago. I do not know whether all of their athletes have got the same assistance. Malaysia government has given their support to the event, thanks to Malaysia!!! As I know their hockey team and athletic athletes’ accessories including shirt, shoes, beg and so on are total supported by Malaysia. Malaysia really does a good job in helping this new-born country sport development. There is athletic runner is coming from football team. His favorite is playing football, but he is the fastest player in the team and got the order to be a runner. By following to the AUG rules, he has to abandon to play football. To be a new runner, he did not have a regular training and coach. The tactic to run was taught by a few of volunteer among of us a day before the day of event and it is the only training he have for the event!! Apart from that, he got the running shoes just before the training!!! I have give a full respect to the athlete even he did not got any title in the event with his spirit and responsibility.
Through this matter, I hope Timor Leste will have a good development in their country without any civil war. Besides, ASEAN members can play an important role in helping this country in wide of ways and field especially economic. Just like what Malaysia government has done, help them!!!
